FORCM Walter S. Dittmar
Master Chief Dittmar is the Naval Special Warfare Command (WARCOM) Force Master Chief. WARCOM is the component headquarters for Naval Special Warfare (NSW) located in Coronado, California.
Master Chief Dittmar is from Manatee County, Florida. He enlisted in the Navy in April 1992 and attended Quartermaster "A" School in Orlando, FL. He then reported to Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL School (BUD/S), where he began and graduated with Class 188.
Following BUD/S graduation and U.S. Army Airborne he was assigned to SEAL Team FIVE where he completed multiple deployments to the Pacific and Central Command Areas of Operation. His Subsequent assignments included Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One, NSW Advanced Training Command, and SEAL Team ONE. While assigned to SEAL Team ONE from 2004 to 2008 he served as Troop and Task Unit Senior Enlisted Advisor on successive combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Next he was assigned to NSW Group One Training Detachment as Operations Master Chief and then to the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy (JSOFSEA), at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa FL. Here he served as Senior Instructor and Course Director.
From 2013 to 2021 Master Chief Dittmar served four consecutive Command Master Chief tours. His commands included, NSW Group One Training Detachment, NSW Basic Training Command, The Center for SEAL and SWCC, and the NSW Center. While assigned as CMC of NSW Center he was responsible for NSW assessment, selection, production, development, and advanced training. His leadership during this assignment was crucial one of the largest force optimizations in NSW history. his effort directly contributed to the creation of NSW's Assessment Command and aided a new process of candidate selection precision and development, which will have a direct impact on NSW for decades to come.
After serving as Deputy Force Master Chief from Aug. 2021 to Aug. 2022, he was selected to his current assignment as Force Master Chief, Naval Special Warfare.
Master Chief Dittmar is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations University Summit, Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy, and US Navy Senior Enlisted Academy. He is a graduate of the State College of Florida and holds a certification in Post-Secondary Adult Education. His awards include, (2) Bronze Stars (one with Valor), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, (4) Meritorious Service Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, and various other personal, unit, and campaign awards.
